BladeSports International is a pretty cool organization that is NOT SELLING anything other than to promote knife safety, provide workshops and cutting events for its members, and to inform and educate the public with regard to the safe use of a knife as a tool. It is a non-profit corporation that I would like interested parties to know about. It is a GREAT thing in my opinion.

Last weekend, BSI came to Lebanon Missouri to host a competition at the Shepherd Hills Cutlery. It was a fantastic time and I just wanted to share a somewhat crummy video I recorded at the competition. I was unable to hand off the camera to record ALL of the competitors...but this video shows three great runs, and an exhibition by Ted Ott that is pretty amazing.

I hope you enjoy.

BladeSports Competitions are dangerous, but we offer training for those that are interested.
PLEASE do not attempt these cuts without proper training and supervision.

Hello

I just heard of this about a month ago, im not interested by sports in general but this caught my attention and i looked the previous events with joy. Id glad to be there and give it a try !

Look up for Dan Keffeler, the world champion for 2X4 chopping as well as a very dedicated knifemaker here.

Yes, he is quite talented...and as you say he holds the world record for the horizontal 2x4 chop time (an astounding 1.21 seconds!). He is a powerhouse, and a formidable competitor!

I attend the BSI event every year at the SMKW Rep day, or when ever they come to show. I'm amazed by the skill, steel, and great people that attend and compete.

Rock on BSI, rock on.

It´s a good way to spread the word that knives are not just evil weapons !

that's just scary.

I've definitely heard of BS. That's great that they were in your neck of the woods, wish they'd make it to SW Ohio. Thanks for the great video, I enjoyed it.

It would be really cool to see more of the competitors here posting their videos. It looks like a great sport and a fun way to spend time with family and fellow knife knuts.

Wouldblove to watch a competition and even do amateur competing. Great way to demonstrate what exactly knife nuts obsessed over when it comes to performance out of blades.

It's not too difficult (or inexpensive) to set up similar cutting activities at home in the garage or in the backyard. I always save cut offs of 2x4's and other scraps of wood as well as carboard tube and rope etc., just to try and recreate my own mini cutting events... It's a great way to test and break in your knives! :D

I would be happy to share what I have learned from competing and designing knives for bladesports.
I have some practice vids and I could direct you to the youtube channels where many of our comps are at.

I also would be happy to share more...but there does not seem to be an appropriate sub-forum here for it. By starting this thread, I was hoping to gauge interest and stir up some discussion.

I have numerous videos on my channel regarding competitive cutting practice and such mixed in with all sorts of other knife-related videos...interested parties can find my channel through the video in the OP. If anyone has any direct questions, I will do my best to help;)
