Bladesports Lone Star Knife Cutting Competition Part 2 12 5 10

Nothing my Case Large Stockman can't do. ;)

Impressive, that is the first cutting video I've watched. Two passes on that first 2x4 was amazing. Thanks for sharing.

william those boys can really cut. did you get any specs on the alloys & makers on the blades used? THANKS DENNIS

Most use CPM M4.

Many actually use the Benchmade cutter that you can buy from a dealer (also M4). About half make their own knives (from what I have seen) and many of them are using M4...though several guys are constantly experimenting with new stuff.

Donavon (the overall winner) uses M4 and has for some time. Dennis, you may recall his work from the Bushcraft knife challenge...his entry is M4 and beautiful.

Seeing one of these events live is really quite an experience. I urge everyone to get to one if they have the chance. I have yet to meet a cutter that did not take a considerable amount of time to chat with anyone that wanted information...these guys seem to be kids with knives just like me (except they possess a bit more skills and knowledge).

I have not seen one in person-but hope to this year

You will not be sorry. The videos are great, but seeing it live is amazing. After the competition there is often side contests between the competitors (i.e. "hey, you think you can cleanly chop XXX in one chop?" or "Lets see who can chop the most rolling golf balls without a miss!")

Here is a golf ball chop-off I saw after the official BladeSports competition in Missouri this year.

william & ken thanks for the input. last year one of these was held close to my home, maybe this year another will occur. i was'nt aware benchmade was fielding a product---heard they were going to do a chopper but did'nt know it was in m4.

Ha! I am surprised you do not own a few. They have been out for quite a while and they have won a few competitions (in the right hands). Phenomenal blade! They are surprisingly reasonably priced also (if you know much about M4 and what it costs to make it into a cutter).

Talking to some of the cutters about material costs (for the raw M4) and belt costs (to shape it into a viable geometry for cutting)...I can only tell you that this knife is a real value for those wanting a comp chopper. These makers I have talked to say that M4 consumes a lot of belts!
