I just received an interesting item in the mail from my friend Eric Blair. As I picked it out of the packaging, I thought
cool, this could put your eye out. Eric calls it his Brain Spike...appropriate. Its designed to be used when more conventional tools for defending yourself are not available.
The Spike is made out of carbon fiber and nylon, which gives it good strength in a light- weight format. Mine was the smaller version thats 3/8 in. in diameter and 5 ¾ in. long overall. The first 3 in. of the spike is ground in a sharply pointed, triangular shape to give good penetration. Above the triangular blade section, theres a finger groove that provides an assist in gripping it in either saber or reverse.
It surprised my wife when I handed it to her. She said, Whats it for? It doesnt look very sharp ouch. First blood.
Its also handy around the office. With the clip attached, it fits in shirt or jacket pocket and doubles as a stylus for my PDA.
BTW, Eric is also making a larger version from 7 in. long, 5/8 in. diameter rod that Im going to be checking out. It will probably be carried in a stealthy sheath. Checkem out.
