Now here is a REAL blem. This is an 18 inch AK made by Sher. It weighs almost 3.25 lbs and is 11/16 inch thick!

This is a ten out of ten rig, top quality everything, except handle has small repair and small crack. A little epoxy and this knife will last 100 years and you'll not break this one no matter what you do to or with this blade. It is here to stay.

Save yourself $45 and get one of the biggest, toughest khukuris in the world for an even $100. And we pay shipping.

Call or email if interested.

Dibs! I'll take this one. I need something to chop all the old growth stuff around my house. I have no idea how I will explain this to my wife. Let's worry about that later!

Woo, hoo! I was sure you would come back and say somebody else already had it. The posting had been up 10 minutes before I reloaded the page.

Well, this will be my very first one. I've been reading the board for at least six months now. I had narrowed it down to maybe six (or maybe ten) different ones that I would like to get. I'm a big guy, six feet, 240, live on 90 acres with lots of trees, woody vines, and brush. I had really been thinking of a 20" Sirupati. This looks like one I don't have to worry about hurting though!

I'm a Spyderco person and that's the forum where I usually hang out. Last week I bought a Shabaria and I recommend it to anyone looking for a "different" carry knife.

11/16?!?!? Day-um. Almost 3/4 of an inch. that is a monster. I am glad that Sher didn't make the 30" sirupatis, it would be 12lbs!

What is interesting to me is that Sher and Kumar are brothers. But one likes to make long slender blades and the other likes to make blades that are heavier than any other khukuris in Nepal.

Khukuri FAQ

Some might not know but to my experience almost any H.I. standard 15"AK is about 7/16" thick at the spine.--- Now 11/16" is got to be quite a blade! "WOW"

OK, now you guys all have me worried. Usually an 18" AK blem going for $100 would have people complaining that somebody else got it first. But so far the only comments from anybody is that the steel is "too thick." Come on guys, don't give me buyer's remorse. This is my first big knife from Nepal. Tell me you would have bought it if you had seen it first!!

Gregg if you notice how long the blems last you will get some idea of how long this 18 incher might have lasted. Don't worry. Almost nobody is disappointed in Sher's work.

Khukuri FAQ

Best thing about a Spyderco is how nice it slices the top off one of those long brown boxes from Uncle Bill. I wonder if Sal has an HI Khukuri?

I think you might've got the pick of the litter. I would've grabbed it, but it was already gone.

BTW, that 20" Sirupati might be perfect for the Missus!

There are a lot of great things about a Spydie but one of the best compared to a HI Khukuri is how portable they are. I'm at work right now and I've got two knives tucked under the belt inside the jeans in the rear: a fully serrated Military and my new Shabaria. The front left pocket has a G-10 Harpy. And I'm wearing a Blue Native in one of Mike's sheaths around my neck. I don't expect to be carrying this AK to work. Well, I will carry it in once or twice to show it off but not every day!

And Sal had mentioned this forum and HI before and I believe he said he had at least one HI Khukuri. Glad to hear you liked my choice.

That Shabaria is close enough to a khukuri to post the pic here. It even has an eye of the dove cho ... all it needs are pockets for a little karda and chakma. I suggest putting them on the side opposite the clip.

Cougar,

You're right, the Shabaria is a beautiful knife. I used that very photo as my desktop picture for two or three months. The handle material is so "matte" that it looks like G-10. Actually it is bead blasted linen micarta. I couldn't believe it was even the same material as my full size Spyderco Calypso. That handle is beautiful but very shiny and vulnerable to scratches. The Shabaria also has VG-10 for its blade steel which is one of my very favorites. And of course the stylized EB on the blade honors the designer who was killed before it came to market. He also designed the Spyderco SpyderCard (credit card size folding knife).

I haven't used mine really hard yet because it is too pretty to wreck, at least until I've showed it off to all my friends and family. I'm looking forward to seeing how that curved blade "holds and pulls" things on a draw cut. And there is one more thing. The Shabaria has a 4 inch blade. That's the same length as my Calypso and longer than the blade on my Military. And yet it is shorter folded than either one of them by at least half an inch. It has to be the most blade in the smallest package that I own.

Wreck the khukuris...

is that possible without using power tools?
