Good afternoon. I recently picked up a bhk cavallo in a2. I have never owned a knife in a2 but did some reading and found that it does not patina easily but will develop over time. I'd like to prevent any rusting so would like to force a patina will this blade take kindly to it or is it better to just let develop on its own? Thank you.

I have found A2 to patina readily. Some I have forced just for the sake of doing so (vinegar, mustard, etc.); others I have "forced" by cutting raw meats, fruits, and vegetables...some cooked meats work as well.

A nice satin blade is fairly easy to keep rust free (there are environmental considerations, of course); and patina does not guarantee against rust.

Thanks hhmoore. I will try patina with some warm cider vineager on it and keep oiled with mineral oil.
