I bought this little knife about a year ago from ole Ranger Joe.I have built many fires, improvised gear, and beat it up pretty good.

The blade is about 3 3/8", the handle is 4 3/8". The size of the blade lends itself to doing many camp and cooking chores.

The knife is 1/8" carbon steel. It gets very sharp, but I found it needs touching up often to keep a good edge.

I had to wrap waxed sewing thread around the handle. I had a little problem with the handle being to slick. This also helped with sheath retention since it fell out when I was deer hunting.

It held up fine for battoning. You aren't going to blast this knife through logs. But, it is plenty big enough for fire prep.

It worked great for fine cutting tasks and projects.

All in all I really like this knife. I would like to see the micarta handle bead blasted to make it "gripy". Other than that this is a great knife and I will be holding on to it.

Thanks for a very good, thorough and honest review. I've often looked at this knife and been tempted; it's always good to know how it actually holds up in the field in realistic conditions for a good length of time.

Well done,

John

Nice review and I liked the video and pics too  I have always been interested in the Boattail, but never wanted to get one because knowing myself, I probably would slide my finger right up onto the blade. The waxed thread is a good idea. Maybe you could rough up the scales with sandpaper as well for more grip.

I have been wondering if that will work or if there is a better option. I really like this knife but always distrust the very smooth handle.

Best Regards

Great Review IA !

That blade looks like it had a good time! Ha!

THANKS for the review !

Glad you guys liked the review. I really try to give these knives a work out and tell people what I think. But, my opinion and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee.

For those interested I contacted BHK and they said it would be $10.00 plus shipping to bead blast the handle on this knife.

Have their Lumberjack Toothpick here, I'd definitely go with the beadblasted grip surfaces.
