Dear sir's,I'm new here and am very glad to be here. But already i'm in need of help.My problem is simple i have just got myself the Military model,And wow what a real great knife I am realy happy with it.Well here comes the BUT,I was surfing around to find out what people think of there milli,by the way everybody luvs em,Well i'm surfing away when i find out that the milli is know being made in a new steel CPMS30V with a new point down clip.WHY i have just saved for ages for this knife and already there is a new kid on the block.(THE KING IS DEAD LONG LIVE THE KING). I know the world does not stop turning for just me,But little old me thought that the milli could not be beat.I guess i'm going to have to save my £ and pennies and get me the new KING.Bye the way can anybody tell me where i could get one of these babys at a real good price, bearing in mind that i live in GB and anything good costs an arm and a leg. Please can some one tell me why SPYDERCO have done this to me:confused:

I assume you have one in CPM440V. Honestly, from what I've read it should be nearly as good as S30V. Crucible Steel's data says that S30V has better transverse strength. Translation: if you twist or pry with the blade, you'll be less likely to chip out the edge. Also S30V is rumored to be slightly easier to sharpen.

But 440V is still excellent steel - which is why Spyderco used it in the first place. Unless you're a collector and want to have a complete collection of millies, just use the one you have 'til it fails (which will be a long, long time unless you abuse it) then get a new one in whatever super-steel is trendy in ten or twenty years.

:D

Many thanks sir for your reply and i guess i have a real great knife and i should enjoy what i have thanks again:D :D

Just enjoy your Millie. It's one of the best designs Sal and Co came with. But due to their perfectionist nature, they always come with something new. Not that CPM 440V wouldn't make for a great steel :)

I had the ATS 34 model and lost it on deployment. didn't use at all !

Life STINKS!

Hi Blindref, Welcome to the Spyderco forum, and thanx for the support and interest. Sorry for "doing that to you". It not was planned or intentional, I swear.

CPM-440V was introduced by Spyderco when we first started making the Millie. There have been more than 20 refinements that have been done to the model over the past few years. Crucible just began making their new CPM-S30V just recently. We tested it and like it, so we made the switch. If and when a new steel comes out that is a better overall performer than S30V, we will probably switch again. It's just what we do.

AS mentioned, CPM-440V is an excellent steel or we never would have used it in the first place. I think you will enjoy the piece.

Amen to that....I've carried a PE 440V native for over a year now and since I've had it, I've had little desire to replace it with anything else...I was kinda like you, debating on whether or not to purchase a new S30V Millie, but for now I've decided to stick with what I got...It's a great knife, one of the best that Spyderco puts out...
