I really do not need a recipe for latkes/blinis, but I want to make some for Christmas. Yes, I know that latkes are a Jewish food celebrating Hanukah, but I am Lithuanian and Polish, and blinis are similar to latkes. Actually, there are not many differences. Anyway, my grandmother and her sisters always made the best blinis. My father, uncles and aunt have all tried to replicate that recipe, but no such luck. They taste good, but not like my grandmothers. My great aunt said she kinda cheats, she gets ready made latkes from the local Jewish market. I am going to get some this week, and try my hand at making some blinis.

If you have had pierogies or blinis, you know they go great with kielbasa.

BTW, any of the eastern Europeans on here eat their kielbasa with sauerkraut, or is that just a Baltimore custom?

Blinis are mini buck wheat pancakes.
Latkes are shredded potato and onion patties.
Blinis are cooked on a flat griddle.
Latkes are usually deep fried.
So I don't think they are really the same.

Maybe I have the name wrong, the blinis my grandmother and great aunts made were shredded potato and onion patties, deep fried in a lot of oil. Everyone always called them blinis.

Taking a look on Wikipedia, the latkes look more like the blinis my grandmother made, than the blinis/blinys pictured.
