SOG is plowing into the assisted opening knife market with assorted knives and technologies. We’re launching the Flash Series within a couple of months. This is an assisted opener featuring a piston action lock. Later this year, or even the first of 2003, we’ll be introducing a tactical folder called the TeamLeader (see image one and two, courtesy of Equipped.com; something’s wrong when I don’t have my own images!) featuring an assisted opener with SOG’s ArcLock.

But, the purpose of this thread: We’re coming out with a small assisted opening gentleman’s folder called the Blink. Here it is:

I don’t have my stats sheet here at home, but I’ll try to give the stats a close as I can (Edited):
  • Blade length: 2.125”
  • Weight: 2.0 oz
  • Blade Steel: AUS8
  • Handle Material: Graphite gray colored anodized 6061 T6 aluminum
  • Clip: bayonet style, reversible
  • Lock: Lockback with safety
  • MSRP: $39.95
  • Release Date: Summer 2002
Edited to fix and confirm all stats as accurate as of 04/03/02, 7:05pm.

We originally announced this knife as a series of two: one aluminum, one stainless steel. We’re only going to be making the aluminum model.

I like this knife so much, I already have a multiple piece order placed!

Looks like another winner to me Ron!.Will be adding another SOG to my collection this summer for sure. You guys amaze me with the inovations your company comes up with.

The blink and team leader look great!

What is a piston action lock? (how do i close the knife??)

The sliding button engages a cut-out in the blade tang to lockup the blade. By pulling the the sliding button back, the lock is disengaged. It is a simple but highly effective blade lock and easily instills confidence in the user.

I also like the look of the Team Leader. Ron, do you know what the blade steel will be on it?

They both look cool. As David Allen said, I'll need to add them to my collection as well...

Cuppa questions.....
Will the Flash and Blink be sold thru Canadian dealers?
After hearing of confiscations of assisted openers by Canadian Customs it may be a concern. Will some sort of documentation be provided with them proving legality?
Who designed the TeamLeader? It looks positively wicked...
Cheers,
Gord.

Please Ron, tell me the blink has dual thumbstuds...(you know the whole left handed thing...). I have to say most SOGs are definitely lefty friendly, which I like. Perhaps some of your brethren in the industry could learn from you folks!:D

Hi Gord: The answer to your first question is, "I don't know." Assisted openers are not new to the market, so I would guess our products would receive about the same amount of attention than others. Regarding the second question, Spencer is responsible for all the products we sell.

Hi Steve: Without asking, I don't know if the thumbstud is doubled sided, but if it's not, all our one-sided thumbstuds are reversible. I do know that the clip on the Blink is reversible.

TeamLead specs? I'll do my best.

Most likely AUS8 (or maybe ATS-34) for the blade steel. The blade will be black. Handle material will most likely be aluminum. The little round things protruding from the blade will a rubbery material (mabye Kraton). Blade length at about 3.5-3.75". It will be an assisted opener utilizing our ArcLock. MSRP will likely be under $100. It will have a reversible bayonet style clip. All parts should be black.

If there is anything else you want to know, please let me know.

Dang-it Ron, now I'm going to have to hit my wife up for some more "knife money"!:D.:D.

I REALLY like the looks of the "TeamLeader"...That one is going to be a real "TeamWINNER" for SOG!!.:).

BTW...The SOG Polo-shirt is COOL...THANKS!!.:).

How about WHEN???
BC coating on the blade???
Are the "little round things protruding from the blade" going to be on the handle as well?:p (Couldn't resist...)

Thanks, Ron another SOG I want...SIGH...

Hey Bobby,

You giving me "crap" again? ;) Sorry for the delay in responding. But I assume us dealing with this over the phone takes care of it. I forget there's a zillion other people wanting a response to YOUR post besides you. The little rubber things will not be protruding from the blade, but rather from the handle. I'm glad someone is reading my posts.

It is very uncertain if the TeamLeader will be a 2002 released item. Better assume that it will be 2003 unless a miracle takes place. Coating is likely to be TiNi. For anyone wanting to see SOG's first TeamLeader from about 15 year ago, check THIS IMAGE OUT!

Our proto is very sweet. It does some "extra action" that might be considered illegal in most states. We'll need to work on functions in legality.
