Dang these desk job hands
In last week's storm, a large branch was knocked off a tree in the woods behind my place. So this was a job for... Uncle Bill Especial!
My favorite khuk, I took it out of the display bucket (ahem, a crystal champagne bucket that was gifted to me... if only they knew, lol!) checked the edge, and stuck the sheath under my belt.
I started at the skinny end and lopped off the small 1" branches at the forks, in one swing of course... this being an HI product. I worked my way down the limbs, and finally cut the 20' branch into smaller sections, leaving a log or two for the wild critters to scamper on. We get mostly squirrels, skunks, possums, coons, groundhogs and the occasional turkey vulture back there.
As usual I was impressed with the UBE's cutting power. Mine is by Bura, and he put his trademark slim grind on it. It sinks very deeply into the wood, and the UBE's belly presents a LOT of cutting edge. I burnished it a few times along the way, and it was still shave sharp in places when I was done. The main branch was 6" in diameter.
A few passes on the 1200grit ceramic steel and then strop, and it was shave sharp everywhere once more. I slapped a coat of wax on her and put her away.
Owie, I got a blister just below my pinky. That's Bura telling me to use my khuks more often.
Next time I'll use the M43 by Sher so it doesn't feel neglected
