I was wondering as in my previous thread titled "Wild Wilderness" what the regulations on BLM are. How stringent are thier rules as to how and when they would allow shelter building, and practicing survival techniques including fishing, and maybe some trapping. Where can i find a map on this? do they have a website? im looking for land that is not protected under any laws. i dont want to poach, nor do i wish to break any legal laws.

Virtually all land is protected in one fashion or another. Game laws (trapping, etc.) are generally under state authority. I'd assume you need state trapping and fishing licenses at the minimum, and would need to meet whatever the trapping/fishing requirements for that state. Might be easier to find some friends with acreage and practice there. Ron Hood has an article on survival trapping on his web site as I recall, and he recommends traps that will easily allow game to escape when practicing.

A firewood cutting permit would allow you to cut wood in national forest, that would probably cover making a shelter.

Ron and others will prpbably have good advise on this matter.

One other thought - since some of the situations you might encounter are potentially life threatening, it would be well worth the money to have some sort of backup. There are numerous survival schools where you can try different survival techniques with the benefit of an experienced instructor. I'm planning on doing this when I have the time and cash. Best of luck,
