So I just got my sebenza with bloodwood inlays and i'm a little disappointed that its not as red as the picture would suggest on bladehq. does anybody know if chris reeves uses different bloodwoods or if the pictures just make the shade redder or what?

While pictures can vary the color, they often cannot make a brown look red unless they were poorly taken (BladeHQ has decent photography).

Your monitor on the other hand certainly could and more than likely did.
When viewing any picture from your monitor keep in mind colors will NOT be accurate. This is unfortunately a product of LCD manufacturers not calibrating LCD's (that plus TN panels themselves are interpolated bits and back lighting cannot replicate color gamut).

Word.

I've read somewhere here on the forums that Bloodwood tends to get more brown as it ages, but I don't have any personal experience with it. Can you post some pics?

Correct it darkens with age but it shouldn't have that much of a difference with the picture unless the knife in the picture was there for reference.

the picture in the middle looks pretty red because of the flash and angle but you can see the difference in the third picture.
and also how do you post pics on the thread without linking?

That knife looks brilliant, I think Ironwood is the more "Red" inlay. But bloodwood is so unique. pocket it. Enjoy it. Love it.

I have a Bloodwood Mnandi, and the inlays have a nice reddish color. Very different to what the scales look like in your photos.........more like the inlays that can be seen on your screen in the background.

Liamkin -- welcome to the forum. Heather here, I work at Chris Reeve Knives. Bloodwood does brown with age and certain pieces are more brilliant than others from the get-go with wood being a natural material and all. Normally we would suggest you return the knife to the place you purchased it from if you are unhappy with the inlay, but we would like you to contact us at 208-375-0367 or crkinfo@chrisreeve.com to resolve this issue.
Thank you

hey blade2klean thanks for the response I appreciate it. you know whats weird I think the Inlays are actually getting a tad redder as the days goes by, and just curious but how would you resolve this issue? would you replace the inlays? anywho overall I'am satisfied with the product thank you.

I think this has been mentioned, but nearly all hardwoods will change color with time, especially if exposed to sunlight or other UV-containing light sources.

Does bladehq use a stock photo or actually takes pictures of the exact knife listed for sale?

My Mnandi is from november 2006, but I do keep it in it`s leather pouch.

Here is an old photo that I have borrowed from Neil at TNK. The scales aren`t quite as red as they appear in the photo and have a slight brown hue.

Mine are darker and more red than that.Yours still looks great thou.

My bloodwood large sebenza was really red when I got it new a few months ago, and after carrying it many times since then the red started turning a reddish brown.

I actually like the brown - when I got it the red was really kinda bright.

Well if you are not happy, most dealers give a time to return the Item....From my experience I always
ask the dealer to send me a pic of the knife that I am buying if it has wood or bone inlays, cause some
do not update their pics and just use the stock photo....On woods this makes a difference...I hope you
get this worked out...
