Hey - (Pardon that salutation, but this is south Alabama, and we say "Hey" instead of "hi" or whatever.)

Just got my BM690S (corrob with Elishewitz) about three wks ago. Paid $109 for $170 retail. Managed to cut my thumb within the first 24 hrs of ownership. Is that about average? Since the first cut, have managed to nick my thumb two more times: you don't know you did it until you see blood on your shirt or whatever. Comes from being a tyro with knives and experimenting with one-handed blade opening and closing; something I have been previously unfamiliar with. Knife is 3" ground length, combo, of 154CM, beautifully done, sharp enough to shave arm hair, a full 1/8" thick at widest part of blade. Rosewood and carbon fiber, anodized (blued) titanium liners. Very tight, very smooth blade opening, no slop, perfectly-centered blade. Can find no fault with this knife. Very distinctive and wide SS clip; knife disappears nicely in pocket. Old knife was 2.25" Gerber folder, likely 440S, which was okay. This new knife has a lot more class, however, and I like it. Not likely to treat it roughly in EDC. When some folks at work have seen it, I tell them about it, but they don't care to handle it, even when closed; so much for people-friendly. Anyway, I will keep it, unless I run out of blood.

The 690 is a good product from BM, IMHO. Just try practice-opening it slowly until the feeling becomes natural.

Good luck with it and welcome to the Forums!:)

Tighten the pivot a little bit so that the blade is no longer faster than your thumb.
