hello everyone. i'm a new member in the forum, and just wanted to say hello.
so, "hello."

my first balisong was bought in nyc's chinatown with my dad when i was twelve. it was a cheap taiwanese flipper with shiny (maybe chrome?) dragon motif handles that weighed about 3 lbs. and a blade that couldn't cut butter on a hot day. after i figured out a few basic openings and closings, it sat on the shelf collecting dust.

recently for my birthday, i treated myself to a benchmade 43.
=) i didn't know bleeding could be so much fun...

anyway, that's my story. hope this message finds you all well and SAFE!

Death? Devilboy? Why don't we ever get any pleasant names here?

Welcome Devilboy, good choice on the Benchmade 43.

And I'm with Gollnick on having some more pleasant names.

You once explained what ChungSan means. As I recall, it was quite pleasant.

Chung San is the Korean name for my 3rd degree black belt Taekwondo form. Translated it means "Peace of mind and tranquility"

I know that isn't directed at me in particular. But I just like to say my name sounds bad…. but when you look at it….. an Angel is just an entity created to carry out God's work. God and the Angel's are supposed to be good, not evil. So at a quick glance my name sounds evil/unpleasant but it really has a subtle goodness quality to it, which has to be understood. I believe the Angel of Death pretty much represents the NATURAL circle of life. I also believe the Angel of Death's real name is Loki. But it doesn't quite have the same ring to it if you ask me :)

Besides for me, it’s just a nickname. Its not meant to mean anything in particular in respect to myself and its certainly not meant to cause offence to anyone. I'm a nice bloke, who isn’t out to hurt anyone. And even though I sympathise with the other Mr. Death during his school life at the moment (I remember those ruff times too :(). Nevertheless I agree with Gonick and the others that such matters or others that may cause offence should be kept off the board.

What I’m trying to say is morbid nicknames are one thing, which clearly does NOT suggest anything about a person, but morbid desires clearly do.

I don't think this is a very tasteful topic as it is, especially in light of the dreadful recent terrorist strike to the innocent people of America. I just feel this is simply nothing less than just shameful disrespect on Mr. Deaths part for his comments :(

Just my 2p.

Oh and welcome to the board friend :)

Welcome to the forums Devilboy. If you have any questions, feel free to post them. They almost always get answered.

I agree that one should take caution with choosing their handle. Personally, I think that the more "demonic" or generally ill-intended names don't help the balisong cause very much. Plus, names don't make you a bad-ass, actions do.

Then again, I'm glad nobody has chosen the name Fuzzy McSnuggle-Duck.

hmm.. maybe i should explain..

i make no claims to being demonic, bad (as in badass), or whatever else the name might seem to imply in a dark, evil way.. it's basically a take-off on the school mascot of my alma mater.. as far as devilish stuff goes, well, who doesn't have a little mischief in their heart?

believe me, the LAST thing i want to do is to give my fellow flippers a bad name, especially taking into consideration the events of recent weeks..

Well its good to have you here devilboy. And there's nothing like being true to your school, as the Beach Boys song goes. :) I hope you find these forums to be helpful and a lot of fun.

Ok, I was only using a comparison so that simple people, like you Darth, could relate to and understand what I was saying, get it?

What about the film Dogma? Loki is refered to as the "Angel of Death".

I remember Jim Carry mentioning it in The Mask too, it might be a african tribal God? or maybe they are one and the same? Maybe related? or maybe just coinceidence? Who knows? Who cares, lol :)

damn, ya got me on that one, and Dogma is one of my favorite movies.

Good job on remembering that one.

Loki is the norse god of mischief if memory serves. Oh, and I own a 4" weehawk BM balisong, just so this post has something to do with knives ;)
