I took a nice doe during the KY early muzzleloader season yesterday. Since there are only two kinds of knives at my house (users and the ones up for sale) I decided to give my Entrek Companion the opportunity to do the honors of field dressing if I was successful. I was, and it did. It's a heavy knife but it felt good in hand and made short work of opening up the abdomen and splitting the ribcage. So I now have another knife that has 'earned its keep' in the field.
The Queen D2 skinner stays in the garage and is my dedicated skinning tool. As usual it did a fine job. So did the butt out tool and the Gerber pelvis splitting saw. I know I don't really need either the butt out or the saw, but I like having them for hunting in the evening when it might be very dark by the time you get to a downed deer and begin dressing it. It's a lot easier to use both and not have to worry about accidentally puncturing the bladder because you can't see what you're doing. Besides, who really needs an excuse to buy more gadgets?
