Well, I decided to take my original SOG Tech II out of the box (yes, it rests in the box in its little cardboard sheath), and I'll say, that is one beautiful knife! I have plenty of other fixed blades that are probably tougher than this knife, but don't look nearly as good. About the only knife I think I might like more, if I could ever find one, is an SK5 Tigershark! If only that would come back! Perhaps SOG could do a "Classics" line with the original Tigershark and Tomcat! One can only dream...

Does anyone here have this knife (Tech II), or an original Seal 2000 as well as a new Taiwan SOG Tech? How do the old Tech and Seal compare to the new Tech?

I have a Tech I and Tech II. Unfortunately, both are still in the card board sleeve and never used. The SK-5 Tigersharks are findable; keep your eyes open. The problem is that sellers on Ebay often don't know what they are other than it's a Tigershark. Back about 4 years ago, I caught the Tigershark bug and eventually bought the current one at that time with the serrations and the old SK-5 version.

I'm as lucky as 22-rimfire, I also have a Tech I and II. But both of mine are well used, as is my original SEAL 2000, as is my SK-5 Tigershark. And I agree: the Tech II is definitely one of the best looking of the SOG fixed blades.

But I don't have the new Taiwan SOG Tech so I can't make a comparison.

Cheers,

Carl

I don't think the SOG Tech Bowie and Tech I/II are really comparable. From handle construction to blade style, they're very different (not apples and oranges, but not the same thing either).

quite honestly, it just wouldn't be fair to pass judgment on products which were made by two very different oem manufacturers, produced during two vastly different periods of development undergone by sog knives.
so help me that i shall for the longest time, be completely bias towards the early production models; only because i see in them a range of products which were built to perfection all largely with human hands and plain sight.
but, i do agree that use of newer materials can improve overall performance to some extend, even if it doesn't always bare the old hallmark so easily spotted and felt in earlier products.
