I posted this up in the traditionals section but thought if share it over here. I picked up an old case sodbuster junior on the bay pretty cheap that had a crack in the black delrin scales at the pivot.

So I cleaned it up a little and attempted to fix the crack. It did okay but I want completely satisfied with the outcome.

So, I made up some mycarta from some blue burlap I scored at Wally World. I epoxied the liners on and sanded it down some and drilled the pin holes

Then after much frustration with getting the dang thing to snap closed, I got it all back together and sanded it nice and smooth. And finished in the buffing wheel.

Oh, and I also added a half stop. 😀

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with the outcome. I seriously doubt these scales are going to crack like the originals. It's been in my pocket the last two days and has held up very well. It locks up solid as a rock and has no side to side blade play. It's a great little slicer too. Now I just need to buy some apples and oranges to get a nice patina goin

Man, that is great! The blue burlap looks perfect on a sodbuster. That rescale is one of the best I have seen. Really, really, awesome!

That's a nice new twist on a Soddie. The blue burlap seems to mesh very well with the 'working man's knife' character of the Sod Buster pattern.

Nicely done.

The only black handled sodbuster jr s I've seen have been stainless. As I was reading your post and lusting over your great knife I was thinking"man, if only it were cv, it would be perfect. Is it also cv? Fantastic job.

The blue on a working knife reminds me of my blue jeans which is every man's working pants. That knife looks great.

Thanks for all the kind words. This little guy has been a nice addition to my pocket. And yes, it is a CV steel model. Judging from the tang stamp, I believe it is a 1972 model, but I'm not 100% sure on that

8 dots & the stamp typeface/font both consistent with 1972. 1980s stamps from Case also used the 'dots' system for dating knives, but the typeface/font used was different than the 1970s stamps, with the angular 'Lightning S' in the 'CASE' stamp being conspicuous on the '80s stamps. Got yourself a good one there.

Really well done! I'm actually ordering some blur burlap from shadetree composites to do something really similar as I don't have the skill to do what you just did!
