I got this Blue Farmer along with a Silver Farmer back when the website named after a river was selling them in pairs for almost nothing.
I picked up a blue/sliver combo as well as a red/silver pair.

I just noticed the blue Farmer has brass liners and pins.
Anyone know the story here?

Brass liners could be explained by Vic using up old parts stock but the pins in the 93mm knives have always been steel as far as I know.

I have a number of pre '85 93mm Alox and they have brass liners/keyring and spacer but all have steel pins so as I know, it's unheard of....

very cool, My guess would be someone just using up old parts stock. But that is based on no knowledge whatsoever.

Yea and I see no mention of brass liners etc. in the SAKWIKI.

"Variations

The original Farmer had red Alox scales and the silver cross emblem instead of the current Victorinox Shield logo. Some of these early models have Brass liners, and/or keyring spacers.

Is that what you were looking for on SAKWIKI? Only modders use brass liners these days. Vic stopped around '95 (not a hard fast rule) I believe.

While I'm not able to discern what the liners on my NIB black Pioneer are, it is very apparent the rivets on my knife are brass. The rivets on my silver Pioneer are stainless. I thought I was seeing things on my Pioneers, but this thread confirms my suspicions.

I think the pins are all stainless steel and for some reason they appear darker sometimes. I can't see Vic doing different pin materials on these. I could be completely wrong but that's what I think.

Ed you liners are nickle silver. Vic went to them after they dropped the brass liners in the mid 90's. It was a smart move (IMO) because they were already using NS on Soldiers (per Swiss Army specs) and now they only had one type of 93mm liner to stamp.

Ok just heard back from someone who knows. Older Alox were SS. Newer ones are nickel silver like the liners which would explain the brass colored hue.
