Just a quick note to give a shout out to Blue Jean Burlap.
I have been looking, for some time, for a nice 1/8" Tapered Tang Burlap Micarta Hiking Buddy to replace my very well-used HB, kept on missing out on fridays or the Fleamarket. One became available on a dealer website, handle material Blue Jean Burlap Micarta, so I pounced on it. When I started looking at the pictures post-purchase I got the nagging feeling that it had been labelled wrong and in fact was canvas micarta due to the size of the threads in the material. Oh well I thought, let's get it in hand and I can always return it. It arrived today and to my relief/joy it's a little gem. Hard to explain but although it has the smaller weave of a canvas micarta, it has the surface texture of the larger fabric weave - not identical but still very grippy. Added to this it has a fuller handle profile (compared to my other 1/8" HB's) and I'm mighty pleased with the outcome. So, if you see a Blue Jean Burlap, or other Burlap materials, that you think don't look Burlappy (not sure that's a word) trust the description or at least give it a try!
A couple of crappy comparison pics
