Blue Lights? Uses?

Okay, so I've had my Inova X5 Blue LED flashlight for sometime now, and have yet to find a use for the blue light. So I ended up retiring it for my Surfire L2 and U2, as well as Streamlight Stylus UV.

So not to get off track, but what are some advantages or uses of the Blue LED?

A white led is a blue one with a phospor coating that absorbs the blue light and emits all frequencies. There's some loss in the process so a plain blue led is brighter with the same runtime.

Trackers like a blue led because it shows up blood well.

Downside is it doesn't show colors accurately.

so what about the difference between UV and Blue?

Reason I ask, is because I just gave my girlfriend my inova, because she runs at night, and I know its bright enough to blind someone for a few seconds (long enough to get away). I was just wondering if there were any practical uses...hmm

I would say white light would be best for self defense to me it seems to be harsher than colored light.

Blue is good for showing blood, and can also be used at night to help preserve night vision, but then again, finding red light visible printed materials (ie MAPS) is a whole heckuva lot easier than finding blue light visible stuff. I usually keep red and blue filters handy for my lights.
