Well I got it today, finally after extensive searching, and less than half what I thought I'd have to pay to get one.

A few questions:

How were these numbered 000,001,ect. or 1,2,3 of 300 or were they all 1 of 300?

Sal, You should definatly put the G-10 native into full production. I recently picked up a FRN version and it didn't feel solid at all felt alittle cheap to me. Now this G-10 arrives and WOW it feel's solid smooth solid lockup 0% blade play and Definatly somthing worthy of EDC. The FRN didn't do anything for me and I think some of the 4 and 5 dollar knives I've tossed away in the past felt better that that. IMHO go to the G-10 and loose the FRN on the Native.

FRN is cheap, if you want to get rid of that FRN Native I’ll take her off your hands, 5 bucks shipped sounds about right to me. :D

I second that! ;)

Raden

Well, I don't know what number your BladeForums Native is, but I have number 1 of 300 here. I guess that should answer your question. :D

By the way, congrats on getting ahold of a much sought after model! Did it come with the Mike Sastre Concealex neck sheath?

That was about '98 right? I've got mine, and again 1 of 300. Just a generic etch, not serially numbered. I also bought the neck sheath at the same time. Definately a keeper.

I picked up a FRN Native I didn't buy it.

Didn't get the sheath but a quick call to SFO monday will remedy that situation.:D

Raden,

The sheath for the Blue G-10 Native is just very slightly different than the one for the FRN model, because of the handle material. SFO can get it for you, but you'll have to specify that you want it for the Blue G-10 model. Also the BF Native sheath was done in "high gloss" Carbon Fiber pattern, like my sheaths that Blade Art carries.

Congratulations on finding one.

The only thing missing on the Blue Native is the "Golden Colorado / USA Earth", like my FRN 440V version has.

Thanks for a greath sheath, Mike. Just wish my oily sking didn't turn the rivots green!

Mike,
Thanks for the tip. I have one of your sheaths for a g-10 harpy and love it. Keep up the good work.

Raden,

Is it a plain edge or serrated blue Native that you got? Do you have the capability to post a picture of it?

Congratulations, Jeff/1911.

Hi Raden. congrats. nice find. They were a nice piece. I don't think the market is there for a G10 Native as a regular model. They would have to MSRP for $130 - $150 and I don't think they would command that much, sufficient for regular production quantities.

I seem to remember that the BF Blue Natives sold for $100 at the time they were being sold through BF. I also remember that an awful lot of people who had said that they wanted one when the subject was first broached decided that they weren't so sure when the price came out at $100. I was one of them as I had never spent that much on any knife but my 2nd Randall, which I had put in a class miles above what any Spyderco could possibly be. Well, I decided to go ahead and buy one, and i am extremely glad that I did. It is one extremely fine knife and, I swear, it is every bit as well made as either of my Randalls.

As an afterthought, I just realized that I had spent about $150 or so on a Terzuola/Spyderco C-15 Clipit about 3-4 years before I bought the BF Blue Native, so I should not have been so bloody shocked at the price, but I was. And I was not the only one. It too Mike and Spike a very long time to sell all of them and I believe that tey lost money on the deal. Now, of course, the knives are very much in demand. Isn't that how life works?

Here is the BFNative in its sheath.

Bought mine from another forumite about eight months ago for $80 bucks, NIB. Wonderful knife, although I also like the FRNs.

I'll definitely buy the newer model when it comes out. Just hope it comes with a bit smaller lockbar opening in the handle to prevent inadverdant squeezing (plus the Boye dent).

Perhaps a better idea for a limited edition BF Spydie would be an existant FRN model with a distinctive color and a blade etch. That way it wouldn't be too difficult to make.

Thanks for all the input guyss and gal's.

Jeff the only pic I can post would come from my camcorder and they are good quality at all. I'll try to borrow a digital camera and post some pics.

Sal, couldn't you bring the price down to $100.00 if you used ats-55 or aus-8?

When do these special issue knives come out and who are the "Usual suspects" that we can get them from?

I like the Native design and think it would be very nice in G-10, which I find a little more hand-friendly in the tactile sense.

thanks

Folks,

How about a "Blue" FRN Native? You know, the same color as the current Delica's.

Jeff/1911.
