Blue Origin today announced that its New Shepard space vehicle successfully flew to space, reaching its planned test altitude of 329,839 feet (100.5 kilometers) before executing a historic landing back at the launch site in West Texas.

This is very cool stuff to me.

That is way cool. West Texas is such a small town. Great victory for them since the tragic explosion a few yrs back.

That is way cool, but from the look of the dust cloud when the capsule smacked down, I think I'd rather ride in the lift unit.

This is the level of technology that Bob Heinlein foresaw as the real start of man in space.

So true, Esav. I think that's part of why this rings bells for me. I grew up reading Heinlein. Everything from The Star Beast to Time Enough for Love

That is to coooool...........Historic..........

That's a great step forward. Although I still like the original NASA concept for a ramjet and piggy-back shuttle combination lifting vehicle. It is a shame they did it wrong and never once attempted to fix the mistake. NASA rode that crate into the dirt.

Great accomplishment! I got tickled by the congratulatory note from the competition who had failed repeatedly to land their rocket. "Nice rocket kid! You do realize you didn't go into space, right?" Hah!

Frank, I enjoyed learning about this last week and decided to incorporate it into my lesson plans for this week. My 2 graders just finished watching it and loved it. I'm sure my middle school students will as well. Thanks for the link. Amazing stuff.

I wish I had teachers like you at that age. Waitaminnit! I did! We weren't the first on our block to get a TV, and there were only a few shows we were allowed to watch. One of them was "Space Cadet" which was based on a Heinlein story. :)

Thank you for teaching. Thank you for instilling a love of science.
