It took me 30 years, but I finally saw the world's greatest rock/metal band. Blue Oyster Cult did a set Feb. 8 at The Block, a giant club in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
It more than made up for the concert I missed in 1979, as a high school junior. BOC still rocks. They have a new rythym section- the Bouchard brothers quit/were fired long ago. But Buck Dharma, Eric Bloom and Allen Lanier go on with some excellent replacements on bass and drums.
"Here they are- from New York City- ladies and gentlemen, BLUE- OYSTER- CULT!"
(Above) New member Richie Castellano, Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma. Buck was rated as one of the top 10 guitar players of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.
(Above) Front man Eric Bloom tears into "Cities on Flame"
(Above) My best shot of Buck. "Don't Fear the Reaper" is an immortal rock/metal classic. As many times as they've played that song, they still do it- and all the others- well.
(Above)
"Raise your can of beer on high-
and seal your fate for ever....
our best years have passed us by-
the Golden Age of Leatherrr...."
They opened with "Stairway to the Stars" and the playlist had almost all their classics.
Thanks for the look.
