Hello everybody!

I started to read the messages posted on this forum a looong time ago and now, I have a question to ask.

What's the purpose of the second shank (shaft ?) on the top of the blade of my blue rescue 93mm (serrated edge with one inch of plain edge)? (sorry for the big number of "of" ;) )
Is it to open letters ? Or to make the blade lighter ? Why does the FRN black model haven't it?

Thanks

HI kilooctet, welcome to the forums and no apologies needed for the english. The best answer to your question comes directly from Spyderco's description of the knife on their website:
A unique feature is the crescent-shaped portion of steel bitten from the blade's spine just in front of the hole. While cutting, the crescent provides a positioning spot for the index finger giving perfect control over the blade's tip. Behind the round hole a row of textured serrations position the thumb for command over the entire cutting edge. Both positioning points are further refined by a finger Choil cut from the underbelly of the handle where the handle and blade meet. Blade and handle shape collectively, create first-rate control and ergonomic comfort over the entire knife.
Regarding the lack of this feature on the black one, perhaps it is an older Rescue, they did not have this feature.

Not to hijack your thread but, I wonder how much I'd have to bribe Sal to get one of the new ones in PE. :D

deacon, that sounds like a wounderful idea. there are 3 different colors for the 93mm, why not 3 blade configs. combo edge, fully serated, and plain...

Hi Kilooctet. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. The cut-out as well as the small plain edge portion on the blue Rescue was an experiment. We didn't want to experiment with all of the colors in case it wasn't appreciated. We kept the cut-out in all three colors for 2004, but the small plain edge portion is only on the blue version, providing some options and still offering variety.

I could not help but notice your location. Forgive me if I am trespassing, but, it is possible that you may not be proud of your country's government at this time in your country's history, but your country is no doubt made up of good people like yourself, and I'm sure all of you are worthy of pride.

Hi Jestyr, 3 versions, 3 colors? now you know everyone will want the option not available?

Hi Deacon, what color? I'll see what I can do. Maybe we can make 50 or so.

Any color Sal, whichever you think would be the most saleable would be fine. I'm only fussy about edges.:D And I second your thoughts regarding countries, governments and people!

Thanks to all for your replies

To Sal: the cut-out and the small plain edge portion are very greats experiments! I like it! I also appreciate the choice of colored handles for rescue knives...

I hope I'll enjoy the salt H1 I ordered and wish you a happy new year.

kilo.
