So I decided to use my sebenza to cut a scotch brite pad in half for my wife and it totally killed my edge, does anybody know what kind of abrasives it has on it? Im talking about the one for the dishes not the metal one of course.
Thanks and have a great friday.

A lot of guys here use ScotchBrite pads to "polish" up their titanium slabs. Gives you an idea that it's not good for a blade edge.
Oh heck, I've done things a lot worse than that...

There's another tool called scissors. Try those next time instead of a $400+ knife.

I know, it just so happens that I have my knife with me all the time and I had no idea where my scissors were.

I can't remember if they impregnate the pads with silicon carbides or aluminium carbides but either would do a number on steel.

Maybe buy a dedicated pair of kitchen scissors and use the right tool for the job in the future.

gotta love the diversity on BF. One minute, repeatedly smacking a knife into hard wood isn't abuse, the next minute cutting a sponge is...

I'd avoid cutting something like that if I knew I couldn't resharpen quickly and had more cutting chores. But if it needs to be cut it needs to be cut... Isn't that why we carry knives?

I couldn't have said it better, I just wanted to know what those things are made out of, I don't plan on cutting them on a daily basis. I honestly don't get people that say what you can and can't do or what you are supposed to do,with a $400 knife, I hope Im not the only one that thinks like this but what makes more sense, paying $400+ for a knife you are actually gonna use or paying that much for a knife that is just gonna stay in your pocket being useless? Now, if you just want to open mail or cut paper, who's over paying? You can open mail or cut paper with scissors as well.

You got me curious so I just had to try it!
I don't have my Sebenza tonight, but only my Griptilian, and no blue so I used red, which is much more agressive.
1 pass thru 1/4" thick x 6" long and sure enough the blade is dull enough that it wont cut paper.
I've used this stuff for years but never appreciated just how abrasive it really is.
Guess what I will be doing at 0330 in the morning when I get home!

Hahaha, man, you made my night!!! Here I have all these people telling me that I shouldn't have done it and you go ahead and try it yourself, haha, good man.

Yep, they are crazy abrasive. It's not crazy that you did it, I mean if you are going to buy a knife - use it!

The way I see it is that it's your knife. You paid for it. You use it how you want. I never understood why people say you shouldn't do this and that with a blade. I understand there's a line between abuse and normal use...but why would they use all these super steels n such for cutting an apple? I use my knives how I want, but I still take care of them. Its designed to cut, so use it for that. Rant over :p

Haha I remember I had to cut a regular sponge with green abrasive on it to get some tricky corner in my bathroom, had my Spyderco Techno on my and I figured it would zip right through. It went through alright, but then I had the same experience as you did. Dull enough that it wouldn't shave arm hair. luckily i had my brown stones nearby so i just touched them up and it was back to normal, but I learned then and there sponges were not for knives I didn't want to sharpen often

Yeah, and the best part is that it took me a whole 15 minutes to get it back to shaving sharp, and that's only because I spent extra time polishing the edge!
