Blue Weave Spyderco Domino or Southard?

Hey guys,

I currently have a Spyderco Southard, but the pocket clip is extremely loose on it and I never carry it. I really want to sell it and buy another or get the Blue Weave Domino. I really like both, though I've only owned the Southard. Should I just get another Southard or the Domino? And which steel is better; 204p or XHP? or are they about the same?

Thanks guys.

If you are struggling with the clip you should check out the deep pocket carry clips that STR sells in the mfg area.

STR's clip will only use one of those holes. It uses the left hole and the one to the right of the hole you use with your current clip. I can't say for sure, but I believe his clip would resolve this issue. If not, you end up with a low rider titanium clip for your replacement. :p

I've had three Southards, two Dominos and one Dice...
All are very nice, but the value is in the Southard....IMO. The steel is the best...it has the longest blade-length and is the nicest knife of the three models. Of course, opinions vary, which is why I've had all of them at one point or another.
One way or another, get those screw-holes fixed up. I guess I'd send it in; Customer Service would likely charge for and install another scale with non-stripped holes.

Send back to Spyderco to fix the clip or threads. I had been eyeballing the Domino, and may still eventually get one. But the Southard has it beat in so many ways that it just wasn't worth getting it yet.

Customer Service would likely charge for and install another scale with non-stripped holes, but I think that the Southard is well worth it.

My experience is there is no charge if not the fault of the user.

Spend the extra coin and get the blue g10 domino with CTS-204P steel from bento box shop. One of my favourite knives, and because of people's feelings about the dealer/steep price it's probably one of the rarest Spydies out there.

I tell ya, that Domino is a Taichung treasure, and man oh man does that blade ever fire hard....

I have a Dice, BW Domino and Southard.. The Dice and Domino gets pocketed and the Southard is in the time-out box as I dont care for it!! John

I prefer the Domino.

I would say if you are a fan of Southard designs, then maybe stay with what you know. However, if Southard customs aren't your obsession, the Domino is a great alternative. I think the Domino is much more "Spyderco" than the Southard is. Look and feel and usability on my Domino has all the stuff I have come to love about Spyderco blades. I use a Domino, I got rid of my Southard.

I HATE the stock clip on the Southard. I strongly dislike hollow grinds. Still love the Southard though.

I wish Spyderco would stop giving BBS all the cool exclusives. I mean knowing that so many Spydie fans hate them, why does Spyderco cater to them? One of the only negative things I can say about Spyderco. Come on Sal......knock it off with BBS.

Agreed. I have all three as well. Southards F&F is best of all!

that BW is really good looking but I think I prefer the blade shape and over all looks of the Southard

I'm trying to decide between these two knives for my next 4"+ closed size knife.
So far domino is looking better but I don't like the stock scales much.

If I'm correct I think BBS doesn't do anything that any other dealer can. Basically if your willing to pay for an exclusive
sprint type knife and buy them in the min amount then you can do it.
Say you want to do a Para2 m4 with burnt orange scales. Put in your order for 500 along with your 50k check and wait a year or two and there you go :)
I'm not sure if that's exactly how it goes but I suspect I'm close
