I have a custom knife with Eggerling bolsters which I love, but I really like the look of the heat colored and blued Eggerling damascus as it really brings out the contrast in the steels.

Which do you prefer: heat colored or blued, and do either of these protect against surface oxidation which is a problem on these high carbon steels. My guess is that bluing protects and heat colored does not or at least to a lesser extent?

Ive always had my damascus gun blued for the best protection but Why dont you contact Eggerling and see what he says. He is one of the foremost leading damascus makers around. There are methods of heating for the color and quenching for protection. He should know. When you find out let us know will ya?
