Blueing

The bottles of bluing are really designed for touch-up not to do large surfaces and they won't work on stainless steel....Do a search you'll find the info for various coatings that work on blades.

are the bottles of blueing worth buying and can you blue 440c?

You can't blue stainless, (blueing is a stain)

I have a good method to get a good blue job with the cold blue on carbon steel.

Rub the steel out to a 400 grit or finer. Clean with soap and water and then clean with alcohol. Dry the steel, apply the cold blue liquid. work it liquid around the blade with the dauber. This will be splochy. Rinse the blade with water. Dry with clean paper towel. Now rub with dry 0000 steel wool. (This will remove some of the blue.) Re apply the cold blue liquid. Repeat this 5 or 6 times and it will result in a rich deep glossy blue with no streaks or sploches.
