Bluing a Benchmade Clip

I really like the design of the clip on my mini-Grip, but, unfortunately, over time the black coating has started to scuff away (mainly from bumping into banisters while walking up stairs.) I'd like to restore some color to this clip and I though that it might be possible to remove the clip, clean it up, and then blue it with a blowtorch. I've never blued anything before and I'm curious as to what the exact process is. Has anyone done this before? Also, does anyone know what type of steel the clip is made out of? I believe that it is only possible to blue carbon steels, not stainless steels so I guess my plan isn't really feasible if the clip turns out to be stainless.

I've used Brownell's teflon moly coating on stainless clips in the past. Stands up well to use, doesn't risk the h/t of the clip and it's easy to re-do as needed.

Even comes in colors.

You'll cook the temper out of the spring steel faster than you can say "oops!" When watchmakers make truly blued hands on high-quality wristwatchs, the metal is heated to an even 300* under very controlled conditions. They toss the ones that don't come out as desired...a luxury you won't have.

The clip will move beyond scratched and develop a patina that is very attractive. I hated it as the scratches were occuring, but years later the looks of my Mini-AFCK have actually improved.
