I have blued and etched 01. Can the same process (blue - bleach - neutralize) be used on D2 with the same or similar results?

NO ! D-2 is stainless or at least semi-stainless so any attempt to etch or blue will be much more difficult. You might find some success with the etchants used for damasteel .You'll be using strong acid solutions , be careful.

I tried bleach on D2 once just to see what it would do. It was etched but had a lot of rust. I think I let it soak to long.

Well, apparently it will work on D2 then. Soak for 5 minutes, wash and sand and see what you have. Repeat the process if not enough.

I really like how a Ferric etch looks on D2 if you get it even.

It brings out the grain really well.
