Should a blade be buffed prior to bluing or just hand sanded to say 600 grit or finer?

It depends! Do you want a matt finish or a polished finish - You will get EXACTLY the same finish you put into the tank, out of the tank - GIGO

If you are bluing in part for rust resistance a polished piece leaves less surface exposed to oxidization. Otherwise it is a matter of taste.
I have a question to this bluing issue. Can you do nice work with a cold blue solutionyou can get at any department store or should a knife be hot blued like a gun.
