I think I worked out what makes the edge on the SnG dull quicker than just about anything else I do with it. Cutting nylon electric fencing tape. I was cutting up bits of it yesterday and I was thinking that the tape I had was particularly tough. I then went to cut some baling twine, which a sharp knife will cut through without too many problems, and I realised the SnG was almost at the point of being blunt, not just a little dull!

A bit of quality time on the Sharpmaker and leather strop fixed that.

I think I might get a pair of small shears for the tape in future if I plan to cut a lot of it.

That and plastic zip ties! But!: the Best of Show Award goes to cutting a medium NY strip steak..... while it rests on a ceramic plate!!! Try that one on sometime!

Hey GAJ, being a city boy, I can't quite place "nylon electric fencing tape".

Could you describe it a bit?
Does it have fiberglass reinforcements?

A thin tape of woven nylon with very thin steel wire woven into it as well.

Have a look at the big roll in the middle at the back of the pic.

Yep, blades dont like plastics. I recently spent day replacing "tuff tags" on the power leads at work. After an 1 1/2 hours my S30v Native was completely blunt. The only other blade I had on me that day was my carbon steel Mercator which is kept scary sharp. That lasted another three hours before going blunt, mind you the blade shape of the Mercator was much better suited to what I was doing.
