My Blur was made in July 08. What type of steel is the blade made of?

Thanks.

Your Blur is Sandvik 13C26. The switch was in 2007, but for some strange reason, the exact month escapes me at the moment.:o

Been at the hospital all day and am a bit on the foggy side.

Same here JM, hope everythings cool, but the hospital is NEVER good.

I keep crossing my fingers for a Blur in 14C28.

I beg to differ. I just went to see a friend the Hospital today. She gave birth to a very pretty little girl. ;)

But in your case Jon, hand in there, and I hope all is well.

How does the 14C28 compare to S30v any speculation?

I'm not going to go into a scientific breakdown because I dont have enough experience with 14C28 yet. It sharpens really well, easier than S30V, but its not as resilient.

BTW, I meant to say Tanto Blur above. PE would be even better. Love that knife, but 440A is kinda blah. It's oldschool. Ive been spoiled by all the new hotness.

Everything after July 2007 everything went to 14C28. As long as you get one dated after that you are fine.

If you do get a blade with 440A though, Kershaw is letting people send it back to the factory and they will replace the blade with the newer steel.

The 14C28 is easier to sharpen, a little more rust resistant due to more chromium, but the S30V tends to create a harder edge that lasts longer once you get it sharpened. The 14C28 is kind of an intermediate stainless steel and for most people, work really well. Of course if you want the harder working steel go with the S30V.

The complete transition wont be made until January 2009. There were still models leaving the factory this fall with 13C27.

I was unaware of this, could I get verification from Thomas or Tommie?

July.

And I hope everythings OK jm!

Thanks guys, but unfortunately I lost an old friend today. It's gonna be tough not seeing the old bastid every day:( Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Now, since we all know that I am NOT the type to hijack;), let's get back to the Blur discussion.

This wouldn't exactly be cost effective, and we are not replacing knives due to the steel changeover.

Just so we're clear (and I am nitpicking) :)

July '07 = 440A to 13C26
January '09 = 13C26 to 14C28N

There are some models out/currently being assembled that do utilize the 14C28N.
1660TSW Leek, OD-1 etc....

soo I think I wanna wait a couple months before buying a new leek I guess..from what I have read the 14c28n is a wee bit better than the 13c26..or maybe I am wrong
