Blur SG2 Warranty Question

this one is for thomas.

I have had my SG2 blur for about a month now, and i absolutely love it. i spend several hours of my day opening boxes at my job so about 2000 cuts on taped cardboard a week, and ive been through many a knife, and many a kershaw in an attempt to find the perfect workhorse knife. i have been having great success with my SG2, as it holds its edge brilliantly and touch ups quickly and easily.

Thomas, here is my question, over the last two weeks with the repeated openings and closings i have had several instances of the pivot screw loosening and in two cases falling out completely. i was wondering if this is a warranty issue or if i just need a dab of loctite. i had not previously adjusted the screw so i don't think its me.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Thomas is on vacation in Hawaii and should NOT be on BF right now. YOU HEAR THAT THOMAS! GO AWAY! GO HIKING OR SURFING, I DON'T CARE WHAT TIME IT IS!
Slade, call 1-800-325-2891 on Monday and talk to Craig or Dawn in warranty about your problem. They can help you fix it or advise you otherwise. Kershaw will take good care of you. Someone else from Kershaw might pop in to help in the meantime.

It seems like some loctite would do the trick, but don't get any on the blade or torsion bar. Just on the threads. Loctite will certainly get you through the weekend until you can reach Kershaw's warranty dept. Nice knife though!!!

I SEE YOU THOMAS! DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

Your wife will develop a "headache" if you don't go away!!!

But I.....nevermind, I'll take your advice Jeremy.

Just make sure you talk with Dawn, Craig is the Factory Manager and would direct you to Dawn.

Nice job Jeremy! I was clearly way too nice about it in the other thread.
I'm guessing his wife didn't know they would have an internet connection available when they booked the trip.

Go have fun Thomas!

Good idea. We need a rested up and vital Thomas to take care of us knife knuts. Eat plenty of fruit and seafood and spend time on the beach Thomas. Joe

HAHAHAHAHA...I have the same "problem" as Thomas...I posted in "The Back End" (this is the forum for moderators only) that I was going to take a couple days off from moderating. I never did leave BladeForums, and especially not the Kershaw forums.:D.:D.

BTW....I wouldn't really bother sending your knife back to Kershaw for "repair", as just a LITTLE dab of Loctite on the screw threads will solve your problem. (I don't remember if it's the blue or the red Loctite that you need, tho, as one of 'em is like Superglue, so you'd have a tough time getting the screw back out if ever needed.).

While I know most manufacturers use Blue Loctite (242) I prefer
Purple (222) on screws I reposition alot. Blue by industry standards
is only recommended on screws/bolts with a diameter of at least
1/4". I don't mind using Blue on clip screws or the frame screws
since I don't mess with those unless I need to thoroughly clean my
knife.

For those not interested, Loctite was a seperate corp before joining
Permatex, then they were bought by a German company, now they
are split again.

Just a touch of blue loctite on the threads and let it sit overnight after you set it where you want it tension wise. Then you'll be good to go for a long time.

I love my Brown SG2 Blur!

thanks for all the help guys,
i really didnt think it was a warranty issue, but i figured i'd get a quicker response that way. i will go ahead and try the loctite tomorrow (which is what i was hoping to do anyway) so i will not be without my beloved workhorse for more than a night.

an update: i managed to only find blue loctite, so i applied it and let it sit over night.....thing is, i barely tightened the screw and now my blur seems to be opening with further abandon than before :)
