Hey all. Well i recently purchased a blur and i love it. However i was just doing some online time-wasting and i came across the cyclone. I haven't seen that particular model before and it looks very similar to the blur. anyone have a preference?

ive handled the larger cyclone models and they were almost too big for my EDC size. but the TIZDP mini cyclone is probably my favorite knife of all time. i have two and a regular black mini to boot. however, don't discount the blurs. i have 5 and two more once the blue ones get on the market. for meetier tasks the cyclone is the perfect blend of thickness and cutting power, while the blurs are extremely versitile, my favorite is the SG2 model which is the greatest slicer IMHO of all kershaws second (and only if you ask some of the regulars) to the ENER-G models which as SPX and myself have come to know them "pocket scalpels).

good luck, hope you have either lotso will power or lotso money; cause this place gets addictive.

I only have a Mini-Cyclone (TiZDP), but it's a fine knife...I'm not sure if I like it or the Blur better...bottom line, I like alot of my Kershaws pretty much equally...all offer something just a little different...;)

...no experience with the full-size Cyclone, yet...:D

Ray :)

Ah very nice. I have a tanto 1/2 serrated blur. I don't have that much experience with decent knives. What do you guys think about the "american tanto"?

botg, I've got a bunch of Cyclones. Big uns, little uns, PE, SE, coated, and the TI/ZDPs. And a bunch of Blurs in assorted steels and colors.

Here's my .02: The Cyclones seem more suited for tougher work, with the big uns at the top of the heap (except for the TI/ZDPs, they're completely different animals). To me, it's the depth of the blade (not the thickness) and the shape. They're tough, the 13C26 is easy to sharpen and they hold a good edge. They carry very well, even the big uns, as they lay flat in your pocket. The SpeedSafe "on/off" switch is only found on the Cyclones. Both size Cyclones have great ergos, and are very comfortable in the hand. Plus they have the index finger flipper that the Blurs don't have.

The Blurs, on the other hand, seem more refined to me. I like the SG2 for the reason Slade mentioned. You really can get them hair-splitting sharp. Again, great ergos and a wonderful thwack when you push the thumb stud. The Blurs offer more options as far as steels and handle colors.

OK, so you already knew all this and are wondering "Quit babbling! What's your preference?" Depends on what I'm planning to do. For EDC, I either have the SG2 Blur or the ENER-G II in my pocket. If I'm going to the farm, or out for yard work, it's one of the Cyclones or the 0200.

So I guess I really don't have a preference. They both have their benefits. If you decide to get a Cyclone, you won't regret it! It's a lot of knife for the money!

I have both the Large, and Mini Cyclones, and love 'em both; great knives! I want a Ti/ZDP189 when I can find one. The Cyclone is just an overall killer design, and one heck if a cutting tool.

I've only handled a Blur in knife stores, or at a gun show. They're cool knives, but I'm put off a little by the Grip Inserts. Other than that, I think they're cool. I really like the OD Green one someone posted a pic of recently, and the new blue one that's coming out soon; sounds intriguing.

Do what I do...

Put 'em all on your want list! Good luck.

SPX, I've been wondering for a while now, how does the full size Cyclone compare with the ZT0200?
I know the Cyclone is slightly wider, and the 0200 is thicker, but which one is more filling in your hand?
Right now the Cyclone looks like a better deal with it's low cost, but if the 0200 is significantly more filling I just might jump for one of those.

I also know that the Offset would put both of them to shame, but it's a little outside what I'm willing to pay (until they make one in S90V).

I see. Thanks all for the input. I have not yet handled the cyclone. Do any of you think it i s too big to be an EDC? is it thicker than the blur?

jj and botg, here's some quick ruler readings. Sorry, but no time for the camera right now.

Mini Cyclone 7 1/8th, Blur 7 7/8ths, Cyclone 8 5/16ths, and the 0200 8 13/16ths.

The Cyclone and the Blur are the same thickness at the back of the handle, but the Cyclone seems to fill my hand a little more, probably because of the depth of the handle needed to accommodate the deep blade. The Mini Cyclone is about an eighth of an inch thinner than the Blur/Cyclone, and the 0200 is a little thicker than the Blur/Cyclone. If you've ever fiddled with an 0200, the difference is the thickness of one side of the G-10 scales. The 0200 feels thicker than all of them, not just because it is by an eighth or so, but because of the sheer weight and size of the knife. If you're on a budget, the full sized Cyclone is a very nice knife for the price, and its a big un, too. However, it's not too big for an EDC piece. Personally, given the choice for EDC of the full sized Cyclone or the 0200, I'd opt for the Cyclone, because it's lighter and lays thinner in my pocket.

Hey thanks again SPX. I'm gonna go check it out once and for all. I love this blur but i can only afford one knife right now. I don't think the tanto and serrations are going to benefit me as much as a straight blade. plus i like the disengaging auto flipper on the cyclone. We'll see later. If anyone has any more input it would be greatly appreciated.

Ha. Well I found the cyclone at a local shop and called them. They wanted 75 for it but i asked if they'd let it for for 65 since I've seen it on the internet for 55 ;) The woman said that she'd do it so I got in my car and took the 20 minute drive. I get there and it's a flea market type shop. I ask to see the knife and THE ASSISTED OPENING DOESN'T WORK. I know what you are thinking, "hit the button on the back"....I DID. rolled it on and off, and no difference. I take a close look at the blade and I see...of all things.... corrosion. I set it down and left. Going to have to find this thing somewhere else or just keep the blur.

eeesh. it may not be an online shop (or if it is all the better) but post your review of them in the good teh bad and the ugly forum to give others a heads up.

botg, take a look in the Production Knives For Sale thread. Dann (Glockmann99) has a few up for sale. He does take good care of his stuff, and is an all around good guy!
