I really thought I remembered the first Benchmade 3300 Infidel was 154CM. Now they are showing it to be D2. Can anyone confirm if this is true and if so what year they changed? Also what do I need to know about D2 as opposed to 154CM? I was told 154CM was same quality as Rockwell surface on car axle where the wheels turn. Is this true? Thanks early.

I don't know when the switch happened, but it did indeed happen. It's an upgrade in my eyes. I always preferred BM's D2.

D2 is a non-stainless steel, and is less corrosion-resistant than 154CM.

I love D2 and have never had any corrosion issues with it, though, despite the humidity and rain here in the PNW.

I also prefer the d2 but I accidentally left it sitting a long time after cutting something salty once and it turned orange in a few spots. Nothing some high grit sandpaper couldnt fix in a few minutes tho. Worth it for the edge retention IMO.

D2 is just fine, but I tired quickly BM's 154cm, although I learn much too slowly.
