 I dont know how it happened. Last night i was flippin my 42 in my living room and it slipped. It clattered to the ground and i picked it up again. Much to my suprise about a millimeter of the tip had snapped off! Now it didnt hit concrete, it his a plain old wood floor. I am so mad! I know BM probably treated it to a high hardness for edge retention, but you think they would have left it a bit softer so somthing like this wouldent happen. I suppose this falls under "user abuse" in my warrenty so im sh#t out of luck. Luckily im a knifemaker so i can regrind it, but i would hate to do so. All in all, I wasnt expecting a $150 knife to snap its tip on a wood floor. Grrr. It had gotten awful loose too, it hardly stays latched in the open position. Sigh....\

Let me see if I understand what you're saying: you dropped your knife and damaged the tip and now you think it's Benchmade's fault?

Come on. Part of being a man is taking responsibility for your own mistakes.

Hup Hup! Waitaminit! :) Im not really blaming BM, in really just p!ssed that I broke a $150 knife is all.

Sorry to hear that man. That sounds like it realy sucks. But that is strange becase a freind of mine threw my BM42 up ino the air and it hit concrete point first and all that happened really was I lost that nice needle tip. Still pissed me of and he now cant touch any of my blades.

Thats too bad man, i'v sure had some good falls but never anything that damaging to the knife. i'm actually pretty suprised. maybe a lemon?? sorry to hear that..

Easy Chuck, never did he say it was BM's fault. He even said it falls under user abuse and hes SOL. He merely said he would have liked a bit softer metal so that wouldnt happen. No need to insult his manhood.

ps
sorry to hear you snapped the tip...:(

This will make you feel better:

A couple years after I got my PC Balisong 159 I was playing with it, just admiring its qualities. I dropped it purposely on a white slab of what I thought was painted wood. It turned out to be marble. Broke the tip, and had it re-ground by a pro knife sharpener.

Dropped my 42 in the parking lot at work. I do this alot. The first time though it hit tip first into the macadam. Chipped the parking lot but the knife was none the worce for wear.

I have since put the knife through alot and it is not as pointy as it was new. I have not had to reprofile the point though. It may be that your knife does have a problem. Then again maybe it's my knife that is defective. It does seem to stay sharp for a BM :)

If you occationally drop your knife, you might prefer the BM47 as its tip is a little bit more structurally sound.

Thanks chuck, I was pondering that vary thing. Allthough I may just save a bit and get a tachyon. I think ill just fix the blade myself, now that i dont have that silly warrenty thing to worry about.

wonder if they'd make a blade style for throwing? like a drop point that's symmetrical and point-heavy, or something like that?

Sorry about the casualty. I thought the point of the 42 was very thin. I've dropped mine, but only on carpet. After a couple of sharpenings, most of my knives have a slightly more obtuse tip, so if I dont break it, it will end up blunted somewhat anyway.

I once dropped it and about 1 mm of the tip bent at a 90 degree angle, I snapped it off and reprofiled it; was suprisingly easy.

What he is trying to say is Anytime you break a BALI-SONG-It is a bad -Bad day and we all dont make 100.000-A year.Do I read you right? OCYRUS........ YOU ARE WHAT YOU SWING.....

About 60 minutes with a Lansky should fix that right up, consider it penance :D
