Hi, I got a question for anyone who might be interested.

If i could get a bm 42 painted all black, who would be interested in buying it.

I would post it up for 500, I'll sell it sooner or later for 450 original, so I'd push 500 on it painted. the handles would be painted flawlessly.the great thing about painting this knife is that it already has a semi sanded finish, so the paint would really stick to it once cured in the process. I would paint the blade also, I wouldnt let the knife reach you with one single scratch. a perfect paint job. When flipped the paint would scrape in certain points, but only tiny dots. up to you if you want to use it. the paint would not rub off on your hands, its made for these jobs, it is extremely durable under normal conditions, acetone does not affect it at all, nothing I have tried weakens this paint, I have to sand and sand continuosly to remove it. its actually better then a teflon coating, gun kote. very strong and very permanent.

Imagine the knife completely black, maybe I would have to leave the latch unpainted. probably would look nicer like that. I could even try leaving the bencmade logo. it would take a bit more work, and easier to mess up, but I could try untill i get it. if not, its just a matter of sanding the paint off and starting all over. thanks for your time. the price would not change at all. I sold 2 42's over the summer for 500 so any less than 500 I'd be better off just selling it unpainted.

Just to give you a heads up, your post will prob. get moved to an area where you can discuss whether to paint the knife or not. Even though this isn't a discussion area, my two cents is to not paint it. BM 42's are a highly sought after balisong that is no longer produced. The handles are titanium which is one of the cool points of the knife. They could have chosen a cheaper material for the handles if they were going to paint them. The paint will most likely bring the value down on this collectable knife.

The other thing is that asking $500 for a BM is very steep, especially if it is not NIB. The average price point for a BM 42 NIB is around $300 give or take. Will the demand hold up over time, who knows. They might continue to hold a high demand that keeps driving the price higher, or they could flat line out after other balisongs hit the market, again who knows. Just my two cents.

yea i figured it would technicaly lower the value in general, but thats in the eye of the beholder, thanks for your advice though. And I am aware 500 is steep, I wouldn't pay that much either unless I was really financially able, but we all know what people will do for these knives when they dry out. thanks again

$400 is insane, and so are you, if you think a homemade paintjob would jack the price up $100.

if the knife was any other of the 4x series balisongs, i could see how it might be worth that much, but i'd never pay that much for a balisong.

Generally, if you modify it you destroy it's value.
Didn't learn a lesson on the 51's ?

so basically, you're admitting you're trying to rip people off?
