I'm probably going to buy my first butterfly knife and I'm not sure which one to go with. What are the pros and cons of each blade stytle?

The Bowie (43) is a more straight forward utility design for general cutting tasks. It has the better belly for slicing, and a narrow point for more delicate point work.

The weehawk (42) on the other hand is a better stabber, as it emulates, to an extent, the functions of a dagger. The belly isn't as curvy, but it does a fine job for general cutting as well.

It really depends on what suits your tastes. I personally have one of each. I think the 43 Bowie is a lot prettier. Curvaceous!

The 42 Weehawk, a very nice utilitarian blade. Being a weehawk, you can effectively have two cutting edges with a little ingenuity.

I've sharpened my swedge on my 42 with a dremel. Not by all means very professional, but the swedge is sharp! Doing so, probably voided my warranty in everyway known. But, now I can slice open things with the opposite side of the blade. :p

In order to sharpen the swedge on my 43, I'd have to go through A LOT of material. It'd take a long time.

Both are excellent swingers and they are approximately the same weight. Personally, I think my 43 weighs just a hair more that my 42.

I just got my 43 in today. Now I have both the 42 and the 43. I think thats the best way to go! :D I would say that either way you go your going to get a pretty good knife. Get wich ever one turns you on the most.

Here's some more pictures to help influence your decision.
Get BOTH! One for each hand! :)

Go for the 42 if its your first butterfly, thats what everyone starts with - right?

After you've seen the quality of Benchmade's knives getting the 47 not long after won't need much persuasion.

I like the handles of the 42 a little better, they seem to be different, I can't really put my finger on it, but it just feels better in my hand.

Personally I have and use both. The 42 does have the added advantage that one can use the swedge to open bottle caps if done right but I really perfer my 43.

You do know that gripping the bottle between your handles like a pair of pliers works better, right? Come'on, on the 42's, the blade is only steel, but the handles are TITANIUM for heavens sake.:D :D
