Hey, i'm pretty new to the board and all. I've been debating whether or not to get the 43 or 47. The only bali i've ever manipulated is a dinged-up jaguar that stopped locking up after 5 minutes or so of maipulation, thus i have no past experience on tantos. I've heard alot of good things about the 43, but alot of peaple seem to think the 47 is "too top heavy".
Well anyway, does anyone who's used a tanto know how they manipulate? I like the tanto look because the tip looks alot more durable/ chip resistant. But i don't want to spend 100$+ on a knife thats too clunky to move.

Personally, I don't own either of the newer blade types, but I'm sure that both would exceptional flippers.

I (and others) have questioned what the perfect blade/handle weight ratio was, but it just comes down to "personal preference".

The tanto might be (slightly) more "top heavy", but I'm sure that it swings fine and true.
The 43 might be a little "quicker" but probably only by microscopic ammounts.

I say if you prefer a tanto edge for the strength, then you won't be disapointed.

I've been thinking of getting a 47 with black powder coated handle, even over the 43. I have 2 42's...

Just go with your heart, man... You'll love either one.

hehe...yea. i'll probably get the tanto. the blade looks like it could take a lot more. thanks alot for the comments.

My vote is for the 43.
First of all, I think the blade shape looks better. now if BM had gone with a weehawk tanto instead of a Drop-Point Tanto, i'd think otherwise.
but the MAIN reason I prefer a 43 is because of the awesome speed. Speed, and manipulability are the two key things I look for in a bali.
I find a good test to see how fast a blade is, is to do a reverse latch drop. with the 43, it's done in less than half a second. with the 47 I have a lot of trouble even executing it, and when I do do it correctly, it takes about a second.
My hands are used to accomodating quick movement, which I don't really find in the 47. I've cut myself pretty bad doing a thumb roll-over and going to grab the handle too early, ending up grabbing the super-sharp blade. the other time was on a throw- the kind where you catch it higher up and sort of back-hand like; once again, I went to close my hand too early.

What I'm saying is if you're used to a slow blade, or are just learning, then go with whatever you think looks better. but if you're used to speed, then go with the 43.
BTW, though the reverse latch drop sucks on the 47, it's lightening-fast while doing a normal latch drop. I'm also paranoid as hell of cutting myself with the 47, it's so sharp
