BM 45

I saw it, but 200 bucks is a little rich for my blood. But then again... somebody paid $126 for a 239.

At least he's throwing in the shipping.

Somebody bought it! What in the wide world of sports is going on? 126 bucks for a 239, 200 bucks for a 45, it's just mind boggling.

I think the market is undergoing a period of lunacy brought about by some planets being out of order or unaligned or something.

I hope things settle down soon.

ramius,
If you have a plain edge BM 45 NIB for less than $200 shipped, I'm interested.

While I appreciate everyone's desire to share and help out those who are looking for a balisong, it really isn't necessary to note balisongs that come up in the exchange forums here. People who are reading this forum are already aware of bladeforums.com and they can check the for sale forums themselves.
Personally, I'd also prefer not to see auctions on the common sites noted here. Those who are interested in purchasing balisongs can watch those auction sites themselves.

If you have a balisong of your own that you'd like to sell, please do that in the for sale forum.

My first act as Moderator, I guess.

Chuck, I don't see anything wrong with mentioning ads here.
If we want to discuss it where should we go?
Sorry, but I think you are wrong this time.

Other Moderators have never said anything.

Hi Chuck,

I don't think our intention is to act as spotters for those looking to buy. I've been posting on this subject as more of a market watch. I blame you for that

After all, you've got the reference material that I use on your site.

Personally, I think the market is acting strangely, and I think it's an excellent discussion topic. I've been sending emails behind the scenes to others on this forum, and we are all of the opinion that the 42 should be depressing market value... not increasing it.

But I think there's an interesting dynamic taking place, and it has to do with rediscovery of the balisong. I think that 'absence makes the heart grow fonder,' and that BM has spiked the market, either intentionally or unintentionally.

I don't think anyone will deny the increased interest in knife combatives, and that knife collecting in general has taken a quantum leap. I have a pet theory on this, which I'll break out later

But I think this interest is spawning a knife renaissance... and I think the balisong collector is going to take a hit because of it. The argument seems to be whether this is short term, anomalous, or long term.

I think this is just bali-folks talking about balisongs. Nothing more.

The market, results of a specific sale, these are good topics. I doubt there's anyone who enjoys these topics as much as I do.

I just don't want this forum to come to duplicate the for sale forum. As I said, people who are looking for a balisong can check the for sale forum for themselves.

I also don't want this forum to become diluted by for sale posts.

BTW, $200 is about the going market price for a 45. IMHO, the Benchmade 45 is the finest production balisong ever made. That, of course, makes it the finest production knife ever made. $200 isn't much to pay for your opportunity to own something that is the finest of its breed.

$126 for a 239 is way out, though. You could have bought a brand new 42 for that. I do feel a trophy moving...

I made the post about the BM48 for sale at MJS about 7 minutes after it came up. I could have bought it myself, but decided to give a " heads up" over here. It would have been my first and I thought someone over here would appreciate it more than myself. I didn't want someone to buy it just to re-sell at a higher price- the thought did cross my mind. Sorry DaveAZ

They aren't making any more 45's, so I guess they are worth whatever somebody is willing to pay. I don't quite understand it with the new model due out in a few months for $180 though. Why pay more for an outdated knife?

Think about it though, would you sell one of your 45s for $200? I don't think I would.
