I bought a BM47BLK today at a local gunshow. Now, when I first saw pictures of the 47, I really didn't like it, and I wasn't sure how I felt about the black coating. Well, when I saw this one my heart studdered a bit and I decided to check it out. Once I saw the price he was asking I knew I had to buy it wheter I liked it or not.

The BLK coating is VERY cool. It adds alot of grip without being rough or abrasive. It gives the knife a more secure feel IMO. The coating is present on almost the complete handle except for the safe handle. The area that the latch contacts on the safe handle does not have the coating so the latch isn't impossible to engage. The coating even covers the inside portion of the handles.

The 440C blade was razor sharp right out of the box. There is somthing about black handles that screams out for a tanto blade and this one's gotten it just right.

The knife FEEL alot different than my 42. I've been told they both have the same weight but for some reason the 47 feels lighter. The 47 is also quieter to flip. There isn't as much resonation from manipulation. I think this is due to the fact that the areas that the tang pin and blade kick contact have the black coating on them and it suppresses the noise. It acctually feels more fun to flip than my 42.

As for QC issues. The handles were both just the right tightness. The smooth side of the pins are both at the same height, where most of the 42's that I saw had one pin slightly higher than the other. The holes int he handles are perfectly shaped with no rough edges at all. Inside of the handles looks like a finished product and not rough like the 42. The only imperfection I see is the latch. The latch bar itself appears to taper at the end, just before the latch head. When the latch is engaged it goes 1/16" too far into the safe handle leaving it not-flush with the bottom of the handle. I don't see that this is going to affect manipulation in any way, it's just a slight imperfection.

I hadn't had the knife for an hour when I performed a simple static throw and landed the knife point down into my palm... The tip is VERY pointy. It snapped out of my skin sideways and made a hell of a wound but first blood is usually the worst.

Now, I've just gotta find a 43 in person and I'll give a review of that too.

thanks for the review, balilover. now you've made my decision on which bali will be next even harder...
