Hi, does anyone have the 520 yet? I'd like to hear some feedback on it. I was thinking of picking one up soon. On a side note, what about the auto version(5000)? THANKS

Welcome to the Forums! :)

The 520 is a winner. It's not a little, "gentleman's-knife-to-take-to-church" knife. It is, however, a very capable, rugged piece that will take heavy, regular use without a single hiccup. It represents excellent value as well.

You won't go wrong. You can also "white-knuckle" it in total comfort. It also has remarkable cutting ability--probably as a result of the high, flat grind.

Knifenerd said it right.

That thing cuts like a charm. I love the AXIS, also.

The 520 doesn't look like much, but when you get it in-hand and start cutting, you realize the genius of it.

I have a 5000 and love it. It has a great blade for utility use and good ergos. The handle texture will chew up your jeans though.

I was just about to post this very same question... My eyes keep going back to the 520 every time I look a the BM line. I was wondering about the aluminum handle and its thickness. It's hard to see as most the pics are kinda dark on my computer. Is it flat profiled or more like the grippie and have some curve to it? Anyone have some good pics to offer? I'm pretty convinced it's not a matter of if, but when... Though similar to the grippie (better steel), it will make a nice addition to my current 551, 556D2 and 806 Benchmades.

The 520's scales are a touch more contoured in the obverse/reverse direction (front/back) than the Griptillian, but the trick is that there's the scoop on the edges, so it bulges in the middle, and a LOT more grippy.

As latchless says though, the traction grooving is verrrrry rough -- not the surface, but the edges.

It pretty much is a different knife entirely from the 550/1 and 806 series. It handles and cuts VERY differently. I'd say it almost orthogonally complements them.

I sent one back. Loved the blade shape and handle size, but the anodizing felt powdery, thin, and cheap -- not at all like the other smooth and satiny anodized BM models I have and have felt. Complained to BM directly -- not the dealer's fault. The slabs are done at various places, apparently.

And the teeth on the handle definitely would eat up pockets fast.

Great knife. I'm about to buy my second one. Rides nice and low in the pocket and those bi-directional scales make for easy in and out of your pocket. I would rather have a different steel for the blade (m2 or s30v) but the 154 cpm ain't no slouch and is easy to get super sharp.

My 5000 cuts like a dream...I've carried it for about six months now everyday and not a single scratch on the handle. I would have to admit though I havent used her much...It's a tad illegal here in my state for pocket carry. It is the strongest knife I have ever laid hands on!

I've got a 520 (PE). It's the only axis lock BM that I own. I really like the blade style, hence the reason for me purchasing the 520. The T6 handle is very nice. I wrote a review a couple of months ago in the review section of the forums. The review is a little long, but if you're interested, it's worth the look.

I didn't take the time to read the other responces, but I really love the 520 one of the main things I like is the blade shape... Reminds me of the Bob Lum Chinese folder I once had, Only in a much more heavy duty package.

It's a must have in the BM line up.

I love mine for sure. Seems to me to be the best Axis so far. This knife is a nice do-it-all design and it's plenty strong. I would prefer S30V but 154CM does the job and it's easy to resharpen.

s30v would be awesome...
The 520 is an amazing slicer and cutter. It works well on wood crafts as well as heavyduty slicing. It is built like crazy. It isn't a namby pamby lightweight....your hand knows its there.
