Iam looking for a lightwieght 3 inch axis folder for EDC.What do you guys think of the 530?

I like it. It gets flak because it's so light that it feels flimsy, and it's so thin that you can actually flex it in your hand. But I've never heard of one that broke or failed. If you want light, the 530 is LIGHT - it is literally one of those that you can forget is your pocket. It's so thin it doesn't even put any tension on your pocket.

Downsides - the handle is comfortable, but not as comfortable as a mini-grip. It is (unlike the mini-grip) a little over 3" - 3.25, I think. So if 3" is a magic number in your jurisdiction, the 530 won't help you. Last, while it's attractive, it looks quite dagger-y, so visually it's not as sheeple friendly as it could be.

Upsides - it's a well designed symetrical grip, comfortable blade up or down, edge in or out. (Nice little pikal piece.) The thin blade cuts VERY well, even with the center grind. The clip is left/right swappable. It's made in the USA. Benchmade's 440C is excellent. It weighs nothing, but it's tough as hell.

I have one and I agree with everything Nick Hyle says, especially the last sentance in his post.

don't worry about flex, it'll be fine. hey, ya gotta trade off some rigidity for lightweight

The 530 is a great knife, I never felt like it was going to break even though I put it through some use for about six months.

My only complaint is the concave axis knobs, they can be hell on your fingers.

It's a highly overlooked knife, in my opinion. It got some flak when it appeared because it wasn't what people were expecting, especially since its ancestor, the liner lock Benchmade 350, was a stouter, stiffer, heavier knife.

But taken on its own merits it is an unacknowledged gem. Especially in terms of bang for the buck.

I do agree that the Axis knobs - and the thumbstuds - are harder on the thumb/finger tips than most Benchmades. I found I didn't notice it if I was actually using the knife, but when I would just sit down and play with it for half an hour I'd get sore. :)
