I'm expecting this knife on my doorstep on Monday, if I sent it in to BM needing a new blade would I get it back with the laser etched number from the original blade if I needed it replaced?

Also how has the edge retention been with the M4 on this Griptilian from you owners? Is it 60-62hrc from the old M4 or is it 62-64hrc?

You might be able to get the etching done, but you wouldn't be able to get the same steel, so regardless of whether or not you'd get the etching, you wouldn't have a knife it was originally.

As for the hardness, a quick google for the model number + m4 + rc produces many results with the answer, 62-64

Wait, why wouldn't I be able to get a replacement blade in M4?
You might be able to if they have extra blades in stock.
As for the etching, most likely won't re-etch it unless the blade replacement was for a warranty issue.

I think this is the knife you are talking about. Here is a cell pic I just took of mine.

I love this knife. It is butter smooth and crisp. Centered perfectly and a great edge from the factory. I have yet to do more than strop it which is unusual for me.

The centering of the blade:

Glamour shot...

The standoffs..

I hope this is the knife your asking about.

Mine has only seen light use so far. Normal stuff like cardboard, wood, paper etc. This stuff won't really touch CPM-M4 from my experience.

Have to contact BM, no idea about the etching, I think the bigger concern is if they are going to have any M4 replacement blades available for a limited edition as they probably started with much fewer spare blades. Sometimes it's hit and miss on what they still have parts/blades for. It's an interesting thing though with limited editions, with fewer spare parts around should you need service involving parts there's a greater liability that it won't be possible with the limited runs. Thankfully it's rarely an issue.

While the idea of a warranty that doesn't really work for the original materials bothers me, I don't see how you would ever need a blade replaced on one of these.

?

Well, one possibility is similar to my M390 AFCK, which came with a late lockup; i.e., the bar almost bottomed out in the channel. Some number of months of carry later, it did bottom out and had a bit of up and down rock. I contacted BM, and of course since it was an LE they didn't have extra blades, so I was out of luck. (This is my one and only BM to have that occur....just bad luck I guess because I don't think I've read another post with this trouble.)

That's a good scenerio. To me installing a slightly larger diameter lock bar would seem easier? Or wouldn't this work?

Or couldn't they do one even easier and install a slightly larger diameter stop pin?

True, a larger diameter stop pin would work. I couldn't find one that fit right though so after buying a few I gave up.

Gotcha. It would be pretty easy if you find the right diameter. You could shorten the length easily and drill out the holes. With that said, is this something benchmade would do under warranty?

I've been in the traditional world so much. GEC particularly. Since there knives are so handmade they can fix literally anything. Is Benchmade more of a use it until a part wears out and then your out of luck?

I'm starting to feel like the axis lock is actually the week link in Benchmade knives?
