Torn between these two, the practical side says they are virtually identical, just that the Mini grip is roughly half the cost and has the plastic handles which should be more durable in the long term than the aluminum...but the illogical side thinks the metal scales will be nicer...thoughts appreciated.

alright, I have the 707 and don't own but have extensively handled the mini grip and I would have to say the 707 is by far a "nicer" feeling knife. Logically the minigrip is just as good and easily as solid if not more so, but the 707 just FEELS like quality. anyway, I edc the 707 over various spydercos among others and do so because its a small knife with a blade that acts much bigger than it is, works well for what I need, looks slick, and you cant forget that axis lock. The coating on the aluminum scales will scratch a little and come off at the corners if carried everyday with other metal things (keys) in your pocket but it actually gives pretty good grip and looks good too. Ideally, I would have a 707 with G10 scales with the same thickness as the Aluminum scales. Either way they are both great and function almost exactly the same, with ther performance advantage due to a rounder more comfortable grip going maybe even slightly towards the minigrip. But like I said, my choice was the 707. Depending on what you are looking for the 707 is worth the extra cost over the grip. As a beater? probably not, but in terms of a quality, high precision feel rather than a cheap-ish plastic-y feel, the 707 reigns supreme. check them both out and see if its worth it to you.

Have 710s, 707s, 705s, and both sizes of Grips. All of the 7xx knives feel better than the Grips. I don't think there's a real difference is utility or durability, but the FRN grips on the Grips just give a different feeling. I will say that the difference between a 705/707 and a Mini-Grip is much less IMO than the difference between a 710 and a Grip. I think this is because the ratio of metal liner to FRN in a Mini is much higher than in the full size Grip, which makes the full size Grip feel cheaper.

If it's a beater, I'd pick the Grip. If you want to enjoy the knife while you're using it, consider the 707.

I have owned both knives, but sold my 707.

I found the handle of the 707 to be a little too small and the Mini Grip to be easier to open and more secure in the hand.

I hate to throw a monkeywrench in here, but have you considered the 960 or 94X series? Both are slim, axis folders that are just awesome, but maybe a little more than the 707.

I'd say that you need to try to handle a grip to see if you can "live with" the scales. Some find them to feel "cheap" compared to Al scales or G-10. I have two grips and love 'em. The mini has full liners and is a sturdy little knife and one of the best values around. The mini's handle will be rounded out more and may feel more comfortable to you than the slim, very flat 707.

I say if you don't mind the scales, get the mini.

I have owned a mini Grip with 440C, own a 707, and own a Ritter mini Grip. All three are great, I prefer the Ritter mini Grip, but if thats not in your price range, I would go for the 154CM mini Grip. The 707 is really nice, I actually prefer that over the mini Grip, but it scratches very easily, and is moreso a gents knife. The handles on the Grip are more comfortable.

between the two, I like the mini-grip. The newer versions with the hollow ground blade  I would like better. Give me the round hole and I'm set.
Hope this helps.

well i have a grip and a 705 which is the previous version of the 707. Of the two i almst daily carry the 705 and the grip is a tackle box knife i take fishing.

I own a couple of grips (Ritter M2s), a couple 705s, a 707 and a 960. My take on them is that the grips fill my hand better, but the axis lock works better on the 705/707 series (smoother). The 960 is nice to look at, but it is really too thin for me. I love the blade profile on the Ritter the best. Steven

i edc my mini grip at work, 556 with 440c. i work primarily with various chemicals including sodium hydroxide( caustic) which will literally eat aluminum. so my 707 is used after work and weekends, always.

Thanks,

I actually started out on this journey in search of a gents type folder, had settled on an Al Mar Black pearl Hawk but decided that it was nice but not for me, which led me to the Benchmade 707...then thought about wear and tear on the handle.

I will try to check them out and see. Thanks
