BM 583 or 587 Warn models. Opinions?

I like the designs of these knives. Anybody know the designer? Also, the handles seem pretty thick at about 1/2". Is this an issue? Lastly, are there any other knives with this style of tanto blade (with the relief grind at the spine). Thanks.
 
Good knives, Benchmade's own team designed these 'WARN' models. Their D2 blades are strong and the one I owned came out-of-box very sharp. Mix a set of very strong G-10 scales with the assisted Axis lock and you get something worth owning.

Yeah, the scales are a little on the thick side, but a nice touch is the flat spot right under the clip on the G-10, which makes it easy to get the knife out of your pocket.

As a note: these are basically the same as the regular Valox-based Barrage models, except for the G-10 scales and Tanto D2 blade.

Lastly on the 'Relief' grind on the spine I don't know the answer on that one.
