The first thing that hits you is that this thing is BIG - BIG, THICK, MASSIVE. And it's built like a tank.

The Good - big, built, top notch materials and construction. The axis lock. The blade is very sharp out of the box and cuts like dream due to the flat grind. It's very pointy:D . The handle is very ergonomic and should be very secure due to the finger grooves. The pocket clip sits the knife very deep in the pocket, where it rides paradoxically light despite it's size and weight. And the olive drab is olive drab - not the crap brown you see in pictures.

The Bad - The stone wash? finish of the blade picks up everything. Prepare to spend time wiping down the blade. On my knife, the tip of the blade is significantly left of center and tightening the pivot does nothing to correct it. The blade is about 3/8ths of an inch too short or the handle is 3/8ths of an inch too long - take your pick. The handle scales are slick but the handle shape makes up for it. The pocket clip does sit out a bit far and interferes with the comfort of the grip a bit - at least for me.

How to perfect it - length blade or shorten handle - wave the blade - roughen the texture of the scales and flatten the clip a bit.

One other thing I notice on my knife - ymmv - is how rough the grain texture looks on the edge grind of the blade. It obviously doesn't affect the cutting ability and when I have to resharpen, I'll see if it smooths out.

I bought a 610 a few days ago, and mine is absolutely perfect. Lockup is fantastic and the blade is centered. The 610 seems like an excellent choice for someone looking for a heavy duty folder.

I just got mine the other day as well. Perfectly centered and the blade to handle length seems right on.

I do not find the handle to be slick. I do agree about the clip. It does stick out a bit to far.

I really like mine.

How long exactly is the handle? (Pics would be nice if you could provide)

Search for "New Benchmade Blackwood 610" in General Discussion. Long thread with several pics

As far as having the blade be "waved", you can contact STR who is a member here. He modifies knives to have a wave (he calls it rave) opener and Ernest Emerson gave him the OK to do so. Judging by the blade shape I wouldn't think it's possible but you might want to ask him.
