I used to have a large BM collection some years ago. Sold them off after having stopped collecting knives. Came back to knives a few years ago and meanwhile focussing on another brand. But there is still something left, from the "love for Benchmade" from those old days. The Skirmish is the model which connects me most with Benchmade. I am not really able to explain why. I just love its design from Neil Blackwood, which has always been and will always be an outstanding knife design within the masses of knives out there, calling themselves nowadays "tactical folders".
The BM 635 mini Skirmish was the only BM left in my collection and I was always keeping my eyes open for his big brother. Most probably for above described romantic reasons ...... Now I finally got a large Skirmish and as you will recognize from the following pictures, a very special one.
I am not sure how the titanium treatment is described correctly. I believe it is called "flaming", a kind of heat treatment to the titanium scales. The experts here will know and correct me if I am wrong. The previous owner told me that he bought it directly from the well known custom knife maker Jim Burke and that the flaming of the scales and the stonewashing of the blade was done by Jim Burke. I have contacted Jim and asked for confirmation, but haven't received a reply yet. Anyway. Doesn't really matter to me. I think whoever did this job, did a brilliant job. I love the look of this large Skirmish and will never let this one go.
Hope you enjoy the pics. Let me know what you think.
Best,
Stefan
