BM 630 Skirmish... Stainless or Black finish

I am getting ready to order a Skirmish and was wondering which you recommend. I like the looks of the black but not sure how well the coating will hold-up to use. I also like the stainless but would probably do the oxyclean trick to darken.

Thoughts?

I would get the stainless. I'm not a fan of black coated blades. It shows every little scrach. The BM 630 is a great knife!!! :thumbup:
 
I have a few of each. Overall I prefer the black one, but the regular one does have a dressier look to it IMO. I did the Oxy treatment to one of each and they turned out pretty good. One thing that really swayed my preference to the black version was the fact that all the hardware, including the clip is also black. The big shiny clip on the regular one somewhat bothered me after awhile, since to me it kinda yells "Lookie Here". The new Benchmade black finish does hold up a little better than their previous ones. I've beat on a 630BK pretty good since they've come out and thus far have only minor wear on the finish. Either way it's one hell of a knife!
 
S30V & Ti have no need for a coating. I would only get the black version because a silver knife with a silver clip stands out way too much clipped to the pocket of my black pants. If I were going to carry it in a sheath or jacket pocket I'd get the silver version.
 
I agree about that silver clip being too big and obvious. I like my Skirmish a lot though, in spite of that clip. It has a great feel to it.
 
I was thinking of sending the clip out to get coated with Duracoat from one of my gunsmiths at Snipers hide... probably only cost $5 plus shipping. Duracoat is awesome stuff... tough as nails... not like that KG Guncoat crap. Hard to even scratch with sandblaster.
 
The first time I laid my eyes on the Skirmish, I fell in love with it. I have reminded myself a few thousand times that it is a "must-get" blade for me.
Have not forgotten that promise to myself yet! :) :cool:
 
Was lucky and picked a used one up here today on the board over at the exchange. Figured it needs a good home. Can't wait till it gets here. I'll post some pics of my lame collection of like 4 knives when it gets here.
 
Just received black coated blade Skirmish. Generally I don't like coated blades but got this knife for very good price. My initial impression - coating is POS. I don't understand why Benchmade can't use better coating.
